There are several ways that a foreign citizen can achieve scholarships in Slovenia: - Through Erasmus Programme (It’s an international exchange programme, where the student has to apply at the university of his own country. A bilateral contract has to be signed between the student’s university and the university in Slovenia. To participate in the ERASMUS programme students must be studying for a degree or diploma at a tertiary-level institution and must have completed their first year. They also have to be a citizen of one of the countries in the wider Lifelong Learning Programme.)
- Through the institution CMEPIUS. CMEPIUS is a public institution working in the field of international projects and international mobility. It is the Slovene national agency for the European Community Programme - the Lifelong Learning Programme:

The Government Office for Slovenes Abroad Publishes the Award-Giving Competition for Bachelor, Master Theses and Doctorate Dissertations THE AWARD-GIVING COMPETITION for Bachelor, Master Theses and Doctorate Dissertations A: Slovenes in neighbouring countries B: Slovenes abroad
The aim of the competition is to promote research studies by undergraduate and postgraduate students on issues related to Slovenes in neighbouring countries and abroad. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness of the importance on preserving Slovene identity in the mother country as well as outside its borders.
Candidates from the Republic of Slovenia and abroad may apply. The Bachelor, Master theses or Doctorate dissertations discussing the topics related to Slovene communities outside the borders of the Republic of Slovenia that have been successfully defended at any university in or outside Slovenia may apply to this competition.
The theses or dissertations that have entered into other similar competitions may also apply. The theses or dissertations that will be defended in the period from 1st November 2008 to 31st October 2009 will be taken into account. Informacija o razpisu za dodelitev štipendij za Slovence v zamejstvu in Slovence po svetu za dodiplomski študij v Republiki Sloveniji za študijsko leto 2009/2010
Javni razpis za štipendije je bil objavljen v Uradnem listu RS, št. 53/2009. Razpisna dokumentacija se nahaja na spletni strani Javnega sklada RS za razvoj kadrov in štipendije: www.sklad-kadri.si.
Do štipendije po tem javnem razpisu so upravičeni: - kandidati, ki prvič uveljavljajo pravico do štipendije za Slovence v zamejstvu in Slovence po svetu,
- štipendisti, ki že prejemajo štipendijo za Slovence v zamejstvu in Slovence po svetu in nadaljujejo študij v višjem letniku v študijskem letu 2009/2010 ter
- štipendisti, katerim je štipendijo za Slovence v zamejstvu in Slovence po svetu dodelil CMEPIUS in jim je v študijskem letu 2008/2009 pravica do štipendije mirovala ter nadaljujejo študij v višjem letniku v študijskem letu 2009/2010.
